Looking for Recommendations on Assembly Language Books and Resources

I'm coming from a C background and although I'm not an expert in it, I have a solid understanding of how it works. Recently, I've grown bored with C and want to challenge myself by learning assembly language. I'm interested in finding a good book that teaches assembly, and if there are any useful YouTube videos, those would work as well. I understand that learning assembly might not be particularly useful for practical purposes, but I'm doing it for fun since coding is more of a hobby for me. Any suggestions are welcome!

You might find "Programming From The Ground Up" really helpful as a starter book for assembly language. It gets you hands-on with the basics. Plus, assembly is quite useful once you dive deeper—like crafting custom executables or even making your own hobby OS! After that, books like "Advanced MS-DOS" and "Zen of Assembly Language" can come in handy as you advance your skills. Also, if you’re into retro computing, this site has some great resources: codebase64.c64.org.

That was really informative, thanks! So, does mastering assembly mean I can push the limits of software development?

When I was in university, I took a course on MIPS assembly that covered a lot of ground in digital logic and computer systems. If you’re interested in that direction, there are textbooks like "Fundamentals of Logic Design" by Charles H. Roth that might help you out. You can also find course syllabi online that list some great resources.

If you’re looking to learn assembly specifically for Windows, check out "IBM Assembly Language Programming (5th Edition)". It’s got a solid reputation for beginners!
