Should I Worry About PSU and GPU Issues With My 5080?

Hey everyone! I hope this isn't a repeated question, but I'm feeling a bit anxious about potential burning cable issues between the PSU and GPU. I plan on using a Be Quiet 12 Dark Power 1000W Gold with a Zotac 5080 OC, and I'm curious if this setup is safe. I've heard mixed things about the ATX 3.0 and 3.1 standards. Do I actually need to undervolt my GPU for safety, or am I just overthinking it? Any advice on what I should consider with this combo would be really appreciated. Thanks a lot!

Your PSU is solid for that GPU, and you don’t need to undervolt it. Most melting cable issues have been reported with the 5090, not the 5080.

Thanks for the clarity!

Just to clarify, are all RTX 5000 series cards experiencing these melting issues?

The main concern with burning cables comes from the 12VHPWR/12V2x6 cables not being load balanced for the super high-powered GPUs, particularly the 4090 and 5090. The 5080 doesn’t draw enough power to worry about, and since your PSU doesn’t use a 12V2x6 cable, you'll be using an adapter that effectively balances the load by limiting each 8-pin cable to 150W.

I read some reports about a few 5080 cards having issues though. And I saw that the PSU I plan to buy is labeled as 3.1, will it definitely come with the right cable?
