What’s a good budget-friendly CPU upgrade for my RTX 2080 Super?

I recently got an RTX 2080 Super from a friend, and I've realized that my current CPU is really holding me back. I'm using an i7-8700 with 16GB of DDR4 RAM on a Gigabyte Z370P D3 motherboard. I'm planning to buy a used CPU since I know I'll likely need a new motherboard anyway. Ideally, I'm looking for the best value for a CPU that will work well with my new GPU. I'm aiming to play the latest games, like Battlefield 6, at around 75 fps on 1080p with low to medium graphics settings. I have a budget of about £150-250 (which is roughly $200-330) for a used CPU. Any recommendations?

Honestly, if you're just looking at used options, you might be better off saving a bit more. The i9-9900K might seem appealing, but it really won’t give you that much more than your current i7-8700, and you'd need to upgrade your memory too because prices are pretty high right now. I'd suggest just holding on and saving up for a better upgrade later on.

Yeah, I agree. Sometimes saving up for the right part is a better strategy than rushing into a purchase you'll regret!

For that budget, it might be tough to find a great used CPU, but you could consider the Intel Core i5-9600X. It's got solid performance for gaming and you can find it second-hand for about £165, which leaves you some room for a new motherboard if needed. Plus, it’ll definitely complement your 2080 Super well!

Just so you know, the 9600X is a great option for gaming. Make sure whatever you get is compatible with your existing RAM!
