How can I fix Double NAT issues on my Xbox?

I've been struggling with a Double NAT issue on my Xbox for over a year. When I try to play online, it leads to severe lag, and often I can't even join a match. From what I understand, this means my Xbox is receiving data from two sources, causing performance problems. I've had this issue in four different apartments, so I know the modem isn't the problem. I only use one router, and everything I've attempted points me toward changing its settings to bridge mode, but I can't figure that out. Recently, I moved into a new place and got a new router, but now I can't access its settings at all. The password on the router allows me to connect, but I can't change any settings through the app. Last year, a friend briefly fixed it by unplugging the modem, but the problem returned quickly. Now my downloads take ages, even for smaller games like Grounded or Minecraft. I'm at my wits' end and just want to play online without issues. Should I consider buying a new Xbox, or is there a way to fix the Double NAT?

So, it sounds like you only have one router connected directly to your internet source, right? It might help to ensure that your router is functioning as the primary device. If you're in an apartment complex, there might be a shared modem which can complicate things like NAT settings. You typically want to avoid having multiple devices that do NAT, especially if there's a modem involved that could be causing the issue.

I totally get how frustrating that is! Have you tried resetting your router to see if that helps? Sometimes, configuring your router to the right settings can be tricky, but if you can get into the router's settings, check for anything regarding UPnP or NAT. If you’re still locked out from the app, consider connecting directly via a web browser using the router's IP address, which might give you access to change some settings.
