I have around 70GB of photos that are currently sitting on my old PC, and I'm worried about losing them if something goes wrong. What's the best way to store these photos safely? Is it better to use an SSD or an HDD? Are there any other alternatives I should consider?

I personally would suggest getting an external HDD along with a cloud option. For the cloud, I use Google Drive, where I can easily share my photos while keeping everything secure. Having both is like having a safety net!

Great point! Cloud storage is reliable, but it's also good to have hard copies in case something happens.

External HDDs are definitely the way to go! You could even use two HDDs for extra safety—just in case one fails. Keeping multiple backups ensures you won’t lose your precious memories!

Exactly! And it doesn't hurt to refresh your backups every once in a while to keep everything safe.

HDDs can last a long time, but what's the typical lifespan?

Going with an external 1TB HDD is a solid choice for long-term storage. They tend to be more reliable than SSDs when it comes to retaining data over time. Plus, they’re pretty affordable these days!

Consider using a cloud service like Google Photos. It’s a safe bet since they'll handle backups for you, but remember to have local backups just in case. Nothing beats having your data in multiple places!

True, but don’t forget—cloud services can go down or change their policies, so always have a physical copy!

Just putting it out there—burning your files onto CDs or DVDs can be another way to store photos if you want a long-lasting, physical backup. Just remember not to expose them to sunlight!

True, but CDs can degrade over time, so I wouldn't rely solely on them for important files.
