What are the best CPU upgrade options for a Ryzen 7 3700x?

I've been gaming with a Ryzen 7 3700x paired with a 3080ti and 32GB of RAM, but I'm starting to struggle with smooth gameplay in newer titles, like Battlefield 6, where the performance dips into slow motion. I'm wondering if my CPU is bottlenecking overall performance. Is the Ryzen 5800x3d a good upgrade, or is it better to switch to the AM5 platform?

First, you might want to pinpoint where the bottleneck is. With a 3700x, getting 60fps should generally be manageable, but if you're aiming for anything higher, especially at max settings in 1440p, your 3080ti might struggle to maintain that. Dipping below 60fps could happen, particularly in graphically intense parts like particle effects. Have you tried adjusting your setup for better performance? Things like enabling resizeable bar, updating your GPU and chipset drivers, or tweaking settings in MSI Afterburner can help. Also, ensure your RAM is up to snuff; AMD systems benefit from 3200MHz or faster.

The 5800x3d is a decent upgrade, but considering how expensive the 5700x3d and 5800x3d are (since they're discontinued), jumping to AM5 could be more beneficial. The 7500f, 7600(x), or 9600x actually perform quite similarly to the older AM4 x3d chips. Plus, with the rise in DDR5 prices, if you can find a good deal on an AM4 x3d chip, it might be worth it for now.

Honestly, if you can find a reasonably priced 5700x3d, that might be a solid choice. But if not, I'd suggest moving to AM5; it seems to be the more future-proof option.
