Can I Use an Old GPU with a New Motherboard?

I'm building a new PC with a 9800X3D and a B850 Aorus motherboard, but I'm waiting a bit before I buy a new GPU. In the meantime, can I use my old ASUS 1050 Ti? Will it be compatible with this new setup? Also, should I be concerned about the power supply unit (PSU) I choose for this system?

Absolutely, it should work just fine! Just make sure your PSU is up to the task, especially for when you eventually upgrade to a new GPU. A decent 400-watt PSU is more than enough for both the 9800X3D and your 1050 Ti. Just choose a PSU with the right connectors for your future GPU. Don't sweat whether you go with 8-pin or 12-pin connectors for now—focus on the total wattage.

Does it really matter if I choose an 8-pin or 12-pin PSU?

For your current setup, not much. It really depends on what GPU you end up getting later!

Yes, you can use the 1050 Ti with your new B850 motherboard without any issues. It’s compatible with pretty much any board from the last decade and a half.
