Which GPU Should I Choose for My Setup?

I'm looking for advice on choosing a GPU for my PC build. I have a Ryzen 5 9600X CPU, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and a 1000W PSU. My budget is tight, and I'm considering either a second-hand RTX 3080, which is inexpensive, or a second-hand RX 6900 XT, which offers more VRAM and power. I play games like Minecraft (with modpacks), Warzone, Valorant, and possibly GTA 6 in the future. I also plan to do some video editing and need to know if AMD performs well for recording. Considering I have a 240Hz monitor at 1080p, which GPU would be the better choice?

When it comes to video recording, it generally shouldn't make a huge difference which GPU you choose. The main factor is how your editing software uses GPU acceleration. If your editing software works much better with CUDA, then the RTX 3080 might be the way to go. That said, beyond the software details, it’s a bit of a toss-up between the two cards. The 6900 XT has more power but can have uncertain driver support, while the 3080 will gobble more power. For 1080p gaming, VRAM tends to matter less than at higher resolutions. Both cards perform similarly overall, but benchmarks show the 3080 ahead in some games; it’s not night and day though. Keep in mind that both might struggle with GTA 6 in the long run since it won’t be out for a while.

Also, with a 1080p 240Hz monitor, either GPU will serve you well for the time being!

You make some valid points! Since my budget is tight, I'm weighing the longevity between both GPUs. I heard recommendations for the 4060 or 5060 as alternatives as well. But if the 3080 performs better now, that might be the smart pick for me.

Yeah, it's a balancing act for sure. The 6900 XT has the raw power but can be tricky with updates. If you're not planning to upgrade your monitor soon and are good with 1080p, I’d lean towards the 3080 for now.

If you're sticking with 1080p for now and don't game often, the RTX 3080 should still be faster than the 4060 and 5060, and it's definitely a lot better than the RX 6900 XT too! You should get solid performance on most games, especially if you won’t be upgrading your monitor soon. It's a solid option and should serve you well, especially for one last hurrah before you consider future upgrades!
