I recently ordered an express replacement for my water-damaged iPhone 15. I have a recent backup saved on my MacBook. Once the new phone arrives, what steps should I follow to transfer all my data? Also, what exactly will be transferred during this process? Will I have to set up my home screen and adjust my settings again, or will everything be restored automatically?

Since you've backed up your iPhone to your MacBook, you'll plug the new phone into the same computer to restore your data. About your concern regarding OS compatibility, as long as you backup is made on a compatible version of iOS, you shouldn’t run into any issues.

Will I run into problems if my backup was made on iOS 16 and the new phone has iOS 17?

To restore your backup, you just need to connect the new iPhone to your MacBook and follow the instructions for "Restore your device from a backup on your computer." It’s pretty straightforward! You can find detailed steps on Apple's support page.
