I've come across a lot of different opinions on how to best apply thermal paste for AM5 CPUs. Some people insist that the method doesn't really matter that much, while benchmarks suggest that techniques like the cross method or spreading it out could yield the best performance. Noctua even recommends using five dots. In the end, I know it's just thermal paste, but I'm curious which application method will give me the best temperatures and reliability for an AM5 shape. What do you all think?

Honestly, it probably doesn’t make a huge difference. Most of the debate comes from very minor temperature variations—maybe just 1°C at best. Just find a method that feels comfortable for you and go for it!
As long as you apply enough paste to cover the CPU, you’ll be good. Since the AM5 is more square, any application method—whether spreading, dots, or an X pattern—should work just fine.
Just make sure to get a good cooler and spread the paste evenly, without overdoing it in some areas. I usually do an X pattern when securing the cooler to ensure the pressure is distributed evenly, and I’ve had great results!
I like to use a small dot in the center, and it has never let me down. It’s a simple method that works well for me after building plenty of PCs.
I usually go for spreading it out like peanut butter. It’s easy and I’ve built a lot of PCs without running into any issues.
