I just built a new system, and I'm really puzzled by the high temperatures I'm getting. My setup includes an Intel Core Ultra 7 265K CPU, an MSI B860 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard, a DeepCool AK620 cooler, 32GB DDR5 RAM, an RTX 4080 SUPER GPU, an 850W PSU, and an Antec C5 case. In the BIOS, the system temperature shows 42°C. Here are the temperature readings I'm experiencing:
- Idle temps are around 40-48°C.
- At light load (60-70W), temperatures jump to over 60°C.
- While gaming (I've tried only BF6), temps reach 78-85°C.
- Under Cinebench R24 (170-200W), my CPU spikes to 90-100°C, with scores around 14K-16K, which is about 5K less than others.
- In Cinebench R23 (200W), it immediately hits 100-104°C, but the scores are similar to others at around 34K, which is still 2K less than expected.
Given these numbers, I'm concerned I can't even hit the full 250W draw before throttling due to high temperatures. I've reapplied thermal paste, reseated the cooler, checked fan orientation and airflow, and updated my BIOS and chipset drivers, yet the temperatures are still too high. I'm wondering if the DeepCool AK620 isn't sufficient for this CPU, and if I should switch to a 360 mm AIO cooler. Or, could this mean my CPU might be defective? Any advice from anyone with similar setups would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Check if your fans are running at max RPM once the load increases. Also, take a look at how your fan curve is set up; it might need to be adjusted to help with those high temps you're experiencing.
Make sure that your CPU cooler fans are plugged into the variable speed ports on your motherboard. If they're connected to a constant speed connector, that could keep them from ramping up when things get hot!
You might want to double-check if there was any plastic wrap left on the CPU or heatsink; that could definitely mess with temps. Also, ensure you're using a pea-sized amount of thermal paste. It sounds like you did that multiple times, but it's worth double-checking just in case!

I’m pretty sure there’s no plastic on the CPU. I used the correct amount of thermal paste, too, but I tried it three times. :/
