How to Connect Three Monitors to a MacBook?

I'm trying to set up my wife's new work laptop, and I'm running into some issues with the display. She has three external monitors to use alongside the MacBook itself, making for a total of four screens. On her previous Mac, I managed to get all three external monitors working without any problems, but now, I can only run two at a time. If the laptop is open, one monitor and the Mac display are working, but the third monitor remains black. However, when I close the MacBook, both monitors show up fine. What can I do to get all three external monitors functioning at once? I've scoured YouTube for solutions, but none seem to match my exact issue.

In order to help you better, can you provide some details about your MacBook? What's the model and year? Also, how are you hooking everything up? Are you using any type of docking station? Those details could really make a difference in troubleshooting your setup!

It's a MacBook Pro, 14-inch, from November 2023 with the Apple M3 chip. I'm running Tahoe 26.0.1. I've connected one monitor directly with HDMI and the other through a docking hub with USB-C.

It sounds like you might be hitting the limits of your Mac’s capability. If you're using a MacBook with the M3 chip, it's important to note that these models have restrictions on the number of external displays they can support. Check the official specs to verify how many displays your model can handle. Here's a link to the Apple support page that breaks it down: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/117373

That’s frustrating! I had heard about the limitations, but I thought this model would allow more displays. Thanks for clarifying!
