Why is My Gaming PC Struggling to Achieve High FPS?

Hey everyone! I built my gaming PC at the start of 2023, and it wasn't cheap due to the crypto boom and pandemic-related prices. My setup includes an Intel i7 12th gen processor and an MSI RTX 4070 Ti graphics card. However, I'm only hitting around 200 FPS in games like Valorant, and while I can sometimes reach 300 FPS, it feels inconsistent. I'm playing at low graphic settings and have adjusted everything for performance. I'm considering an upgrade since I have some budget saved up, and I'm even open to switching to AMD if it means better FPS. What changes can I make to improve my performance? I'd love any tips and insights, as I'm also planning to build a PC for my brother soon!

Start with the basics! Have you checked if your PC is overloaded with unnecessary software? Also, monitor your CPU temperatures during gaming, as thermal throttling might be holding you back. Plus, make sure your monitor's refresh rate is set correctly.

I use an Asus TUF VG279QM monitor that can go up to 280Hz and my CPU doesn't seem to be throttling based on a recent check.

You might be dealing with a CPU-bound situation here. Try benchmarking your system to confirm. If the CPU usage is high while the GPU is not fully utilized, that’s a classic sign of a bottleneck. An upgrade to an AMD chip would definitely boost your FPS!

Great tip! I'll look into that. For now, I'm using an Asus Strix motherboard, but I can't recall which model. Thanks for the insight!

Check your temperatures! Getting 300 FPS sometimes but dropping to 200 tells me something might be throttling. If temps are too high, it’s a sign that something's not right. Look into running a monitoring tool to see what's happening.

Lol, calling your rig 'not strong enough' when you can hit 300 FPS is a bit rich. But hey, if you're looking to improve, definitely do some research and see if any software is bogging you down!

Honestly, 200 FPS is pretty decent, but if you were hitting 330+ before, that drop is concerning. Have you considered whether it's a CPU bottleneck? An AMD X3D chip could give you the pure FPS boost you're looking for. Your current setup is solid, so if you upgrade, you could pass down your Intel gear to your brother.

Thanks for the suggestion! I don't really get bottlenecks though, can you help explain what that is and how I might improve my Intel CPU’s performance?
