Did I Make a Mistake Upgrading from a 3070 to a 5070?

I've been using my RTX 3070 for a while (with an R7 5800x3d CPU) and it worked fine for me. Recently, I treated myself to a 5070 that I found for $549 at Walmart. I didn't research much before buying it because it seemed like a great deal at the time. However, after looking up reviews, I've seen quite a few negative opinions about it. I game semi-casually at 1440p on a 144hz monitor I bought last year, and some say the 5070 should work well for that, but I'm starting to wonder if I made a bad choice. Should I return the 5070 and wait for something better, or will it meet my needs?

Honestly, I made a similar upgrade from 3070 to 5070. At first, I thought about getting the 5070 Ti, but in hindsight, it wasn't worth the extra cash for me. I'm enjoying the upgrade regardless of what others think!

You got a great deal! The cheapest 9070 is way pricier right now, so I'd say you did alright. The performance increase is substantial, especially if you enjoy features like DLSS.

Keep it! The upgrade is substantial in performance compared to the 3070, especially for newer games. Don’t sweat it too much; enjoy your birthday gift!

If you’re not paying over MSRP, then you did fine. The 5070 should handle 1440p gaming well—just don’t go too hard on ray tracing. As long as you’re satisfied with your settings, just enjoy it!

That sounds like solid advice! I’m all set up now and really loving the performance!

No worries, the 5070 is a solid card for 1440p gaming! If you got it at that price, it should perform well enough. Ignore the controversy around it; the 12GB of VRAM is more than capable for today’s games.

Thanks, I just tend to overthink things and this had me a bit anxious!
