Hey folks! I wanted to know if anyone else is feeling overwhelmed by Patch Tuesday lately. I manage updates across my servers, and in the past, it felt manageable. But for the last couple of months, it's been quite the chore—tons of failed updates and machines booting into BitLocker recovery.
This month, while my workstations seem fine, I'm really struggling with Windows Server 2022. I have a brand new VM that's only a month old, and it won't install the November update. I get an error message (0x800f081f) that leads me to some potential fixes involving DISM and SFC, but those haven't worked. It's frustrating because you'd think a new machine wouldn't have these issues!
I've tried removing SentinelOne, and the system is pretty much vanilla at this point. Does anyone have any insights on what might be going wrong?

I had a similar issue with about 40 of my Windows Server 2022 machines. A simple reboot followed by trying the update again a couple of days later worked like a charm.
I recommend keeping an eye on monthly threads like this one; they can be really helpful. Here’s a link to a great ongoing discussion on Patch Tuesdays that I read every month to prep myself: [Patch Tuesday MegaThread](https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1oueueh/patch_tuesday_megathread_20251111/).
You might want to consider only doing updates every three months. Let others deal with the beta tests, so it’s less work for you and your team. Just make it a scheduled thing!
If you're facing more issues with the updates, it might be worth investigating further. Did DISM, SFC, or CHKDSK reveal any problems? Also, check the event logs for any errors that appeared before you installed the updates—both on the VM and the host.
DISM and CHKDSK didn't find anything. The event log only shows the update starting and then several services stopping before failing, then restarting. It's really confusing!

I check that thread 3-4 times a month to stay ahead of any potential issues. It's super helpful!
