How to Set GRUB to Remember the Last Boot OS in a Dual Boot Setup?

I've been trying to get GRUB to remember my last booted operating system in a dual-boot setup with Windows 11 and Ubuntu 25.10 for hours, but nothing seems to work. I've already tried editing the GRUB configuration file, but I'm still having issues. Is there a specific reason this might be happening? I should mention that I've split the drive but it's not two separate drives. What else can I try?

You might want to check out this guide on dual-boot systems. It could provide some insights into setting things up correctly: linuxblog.io/dual-boot-linux-windows-install-guide.

To help out, can you tell me which filesystem you're using and what files you modified? That info could help diagnose the issue better.
