Is it time to upgrade my 3700x CPU?

Hey everyone! I've been using my Ryzen 7 3700x for quite a while now, and I'm starting to think it might be time for an upgrade. Ideally, I'd like to move to an AM5 setup, but I'm saving up for a car, so money is tight. I've heard a lot of good things about the 5700x3d on the AM4 platform, but I don't want to spend money on something that only offers a slight performance boost.

Here's my current setup:
- Ryzen 7 3700x CPU
- RX 7800-XT GPU
- 32GB of 3600MHz C16 RAM (dual channel)
- 1TB SSD + 500GB SSD
- 165Hz 1440p widescreen monitor

I'm still getting pretty good frame rates—usually above 100fps—although I have noticed some drops during demanding situations like my modded Assetto Corsa and a zombies mod in Marvel Rivals. I'd really appreciate any advice!

In situations like yours, it's a great idea to check local marketplaces for a used 5000 series CPU. You can often find good deals on stuff like Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, which could save you some cash without sacrificing performance.

Good call! I hadn’t even thought about the used market. I’ve been fixated on Amazon. I’ll definitely check those sites out!

You’ve got a solid setup. The GPU is great, and 32GB RAM is more than enough. If you can find a decent price on a 5700x3d, it might be worth it, especially since you won’t need to overhaul your whole rig. But if you decide to go with an AM5 upgrade, remember you’ll need new RAM (DDR5), and prices have been pretty steep lately. Just keep that in mind before jumping in!

Exactly! The AM5 CPUs are great, but all the additional costs can add up quickly. Plus, you'd need a new cooler if you lost your old AM5 parts. It can get pretty expensive, haha.
