What CPU and Motherboard Should I Get After My Upgrade?

I recently broke my Ryzen 5 3600 CPU while trying to swap out the cooler and managed to short my Gigabyte B450M S2H motherboard, so now I need to upgrade. I currently have an RTX 2060 and 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and I'm considering upgrading to something like a 5070 this summer. Should I go for DDR5 or stick with DDR4? I need to find a motherboard and CPU combo for under $300. What are my best options?

AM5 is definitely the way to go for future-proofing, but finding something under $300 can be tricky. Keep an eye out for deals!

If you're forced to upgrade, I would recommend looking into AM5 options. It’s the latest platform and could give you a solid upgrade path for the future.

That’s a tough situation! I’d consider a build around the 7500F, but you might need to cut back to 16GB of RAM to keep costs down. Just a thought!

With a budget under $300, DDR5 isn’t really feasible unless you're stretching it. I’d suggest considering either a Ryzen 5700(x) or an Intel LGA 1700 like the 14400F, which is pretty affordable. The Raptor Lakes are dropping in price, but I’d be cautious about degradation issues. Both options can fit into your budget with a motherboard.
