Troubleshooting Windows Installation Failures

Hi everyone! I've been having a really tough time with my computer. Two days ago, after I finished dinner, my PC was unresponsive and stuck on a black screen. When I tried rebooting, it got caught in a loop of automatic repair that just wouldn't end, and I kept seeing an error saying "Startup Repair couldn't fix your PC".

I tried a bunch of different solutions: reverting updates didn't work, and commands in CMD like bootrec /rebuildbcd just showed "Total identified Windows installations: 0". Safe mode led to a blue screen with an "inaccessible_boot_device" error.

Next, I thought a clean install might help, so I wiped my drive and used a bootable USB to reinstall Windows. Unfortunately, the installation kept failing at various points—most frequently around 11%, but once it got to around 30% before halting with an error about the installation failing. My friend suggested it could be a faulty SSD, so I bought a new one (Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe SSD) but still ran into the same installation error, just at 45% this time.

I even tried different M.2 slots on the motherboard, but it didn't change anything. Currently, ACHI is enabled, Secure Boot is off, TMP 2.0 is on, and XMP is off. I reseated the RAM as well, but nothing has worked so far.

Lastly, I had issues creating a new bootable USB on my MacBook, but I plan to give that another go tonight. I'm really at a loss here! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Awesome update about creating the bootable USB successfully! Sometimes that's all it takes. Make sure to double-check that your USB drive is correctly configured as the primary boot device in BIOS, and fingers crossed, the installation will go smoothly this time!

Hey! It sounds like you've been through a lot trying to fix this. Since the issue persists even after switching SSDs, have you considered checking the RAM? A memory test can be really helpful here. If Windows is not available, try booting from a USB with memtest86+. I know you mentioned issues creating a bootable USB on your Mac, but it's worth the effort. Let me know how it goes!

Glad to hear you got a new bootable USB! Sometimes the simplest fixes do the trick. I’d suggest trying a clean install once again with that USB, and hopefully, you’ll get through it this time. Don’t forget to check BIOS settings just in case—they can trip you up without you realizing!
