I'm looking to help my friend upgrade her prebuilt gaming PC. Right now, she has a Ryzen 5 5500, an RX 6500 XT, and 8 GB of RAM, though I'm not sure about the power supply unit (PSU). I'm considering upgrading her GPU to either a 9060 XT or possibly a 5060 Ti for better performance. I also want to increase the RAM to 16 GB. Since money is a bit tight, I'm trying to keep the upgrades limited to these two components. She's aiming to play games like Borderlands 4 at 1080P on medium settings. Any suggestions?

You might find that the RAM is the biggest bottleneck right now, so upgrading it could help a lot. The 6500 XT can struggle due to the limitations of PCIe 3.0 from the CPU, so keep that in mind too. If you can monitor the system's performance, that could help you see how hard each component is being pushed, but the RAM upgrade will definitely help in most cases.
The 5060 Ti isn't significantly better than the 9060 XT for the price, but it’s still a solid option for 1080p gaming. Given that Borderlands 4 can be pretty demanding, the 8 GB version may be sufficient if you're sticking to medium settings. I’d recommend aiming for a 2x16 GB 3200MHz kit for RAM upgrades, as you can find used DDR4 RAM at good prices. Just make sure to check the PSU as well—ensure it's got enough wattage and the right cables for the GPU upgrade.
