Can an Electrical Engineering Degree Help Me Become a Remote Software Engineer?

I'm starting a degree in Electrical Engineering next year, but I've heard that it might not lead to many remote job opportunities. I'm wondering if getting an EE degree along with some coding certifications would be a practical pathway to becoming a remote software engineer.

Honestly, I’d rather be happy working abroad for less money than stay here and feel miserable. There’s a balance between passion and pay, and sometimes you’ve got to pick one!

As someone who completed an EE PhD and transitioned to software engineering, I’m curious why you’d choose an EE degree just for software development. There might be other paths that lead straight into coding without going through EE first.

Getting a job as a software engineer usually requires a relevant degree, but your EE degree can still be useful depending on your focus. While many remote jobs favor experienced developers, it’s not uncommon for new grads to land remote roles, especially if they build a strong portfolio.
