Why can’t my iPhone 17 airdrop to my MacBook Pro?

I'm having trouble getting my new iPhone 17 to airdrop anything to my MacBook Pro Max M1. My old iPhone 12 worked just fine with it, but now I can't transfer pictures, videos, or web pages at all. Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?

"Compatibility issues can happen if the software versions don’t match." I am using OS Big Sur 11.7.10 on macbook pro. I purposely have not updated to a newer version due to reported glitches and incompatibility with other applications I use frequently. The loss of Air Drop from my new iPhone 17 to macbook is just another outrageous and unacceptable obstacle created by Apple - a company that used to pride itself on seamless compatibility across platforms. I am so disgusted with the iPhone 17 - ten thousand features I will never use, but the one I want to use does NOT WORK! And navigating around the 17 is, well FRUSTRATING beyond reason! Sorry, just had to vent.

I get that it seems easy, but updating to the latest macOS isn’t always the best idea. I use my Mac for work, and sometimes new updates can cause apps and programs to stop functioning properly.

Yeah, I totally understand. I just want my airdrop to work without causing other issues!

It seems like your iPhone 17 is on iOS 26, so you might want to check if your MacBook is updated to macOS Tahoe too. Compatibility issues can happen if the software versions don’t match.
