Why Does My USB-C Phone Only Charge One Way?

I have a Samsung S22 Ultra, and I've noticed a strange issue with the USB-C port. It works fine with any charging cable, but only if I plug it in with side A facing up. If I flip the cable over, it stops charging entirely. I thought USB-C was supposed to be fully reversible; can someone explain why only one side seems to work?

It's interesting because the middle pins (D+ and D-) aren't mirrored on the male plug, which means if those pins are damaged on your port, you might be stuck with only one functional side. Also, if you're using an older charger, it could be relying on those data pins, which shouldn't be necessary with a proper USB-C PD charger. Just something to keep in mind!

This could be a sign of a dying port. If the pins responsible for charging on the 'B' side are malfunctioning, that means your phone would only be able to draw power from specific pins on your cable. It's worth checking if it works with a different charger or cable to definitively rule out the hardware issue.

It sounds like your phone's USB-C port might have some issues. If it only works one way, it could be that some pins are damaged, leading to a situation where it's essentially only recognizing one side of the plug. Have you tried using a different USB-C device to see if the problem persists? It could help you determine if it's the cable or the port that's faulty.
