I'm finally ready to build a new PC after a few years, but I'm a bit rusty on choosing parts. My current setup includes a Ryzen 7 3700x, RTX 2080 Super, and 32GB of RAM, among others. I plan to reuse some storage from my old PC and gift it to a family member. I would love to hear your thoughts on my current parts list:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
- CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition
- Motherboard: ASRock B850M Pro RS WiFi
- Memory: Crucial Pro Overclocking 32GB DDR5-6000
- Storage: Western Digital WD_BLACK SN8100 2TB NVME
- Video Card: Gigabyte WINDFORCE OC SFF GeForce RTX 5070
- Case: Lian Li LANCOOL 217
I'm in Canada, and the total price is about $2419.70 CAD, not including a PSU yet. I'll primarily use this for gaming (everything from AAA titles to indie games), light work tasks (Excel), and some amateur photo and video editing. I often use Ethernet but would like to have WiFi for convenience. Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a different parts list I came up with. It's a bit pricier, but it offers a better motherboard, cooler, and GPU options. Take a look! Total is around $2503.78 if you're interested. Let me know what you think!
I'd suggest going with a 7800X3D and a 5070 Ti instead of the 9800X3D. Plus, a Gen5 SSD isn't really necessary for most builds; an SN850X would be a better choice. For the CPU cooler, consider a dual-tower option for better cooling, like the Thermalright Peerless Assassin. A recommended PSU would be the Montech Century II 850W, which should handle your needs!
Thanks for the tips! I usually hesitate with last-gen products, but that sounds smart. I was leaning toward Gen5 just to avoid moving my OS later, but the cost difference isn't huge.
Definitely understand that. Just weigh how long you plan to keep this build. A solid PSU will give you peace of mind!
Hey! Just a quick question: what monitor resolution are you aiming for? Also, I'd recommend avoiding ASRock for the motherboard, especially with the 9800X3D. If you let me know your monitor specs, I can give you more tailored advice!
I currently have a 27" 1440p 144hz monitor and a secondary 1080p 60hz. I'm hoping to eventually upgrade to a 4k 165hz setup.

This looks awesome! Just $100 more for all those upgrades sounds tempting, especially with the performance boost. Thanks!
