What’s the most cost-effective way to license email and MFA access?

I'm looking for the cheapest licensing options for some employees who only need to access email on their personal devices. I want to ensure we can enforce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on their accounts. Initially, I thought the F3 plan would fit, but it seems like it's limited to calendar access now? Would a combination of Exchange Online Plan 1 and Entra ID Plan 1 be the right choice?

Just a heads-up: if you go with F1 or F3, you can make it work for basic email needs as long as you're okay with the smaller mailbox size. For anything more than 2GB, you might want to look at the Basic Plan.

Yeah, F3 does cover Exchange Online mail, and you'll get a 2GB mailbox with it, but remember, that's only through Outlook on the web. Entra Plan 1 is included, so it sounds like it might be a good fit if limited mailbox size isn't an issue.

You're actually partly right about the F3 plan! We use F3, and it gives a 2GB mailbox along with Teams and OneDrive access, just no desktop apps. It might end up being cheaper than going for both Exchange Online Plan 1 and Entra ID Plan 1 together.

Make sure you're aware that Frontline licenses like F3 come with some unique restrictions. If you're focused on the MSFT ecosystem, combining Exchange Online Plan 1 with Entra ID Plan 1 could be a straightforward solution.
