Upgrading My CPU: Is Ryzen 7 5800X3D Worth It?

I've been building PCs for about ten years and I've continuously upgraded various components to boost performance. I mostly game on low settings and recently noticed my FPS sitting around 80-90 in newer titles like Arc Raiders. However, I'm eager for a bit more performance.

Right now, my setup includes a Gigabyte 4060 GPU, a Ryzen 5 3600XT CPU, an X570 Pro WiFi motherboard, 16GB of 3600MHz RAM, and a 650W PSU. My most recent upgrade was the GPU, so the CPU and RAM are the oldest components. I keep my parts well-maintained, and I suspect my CPU might be the bottleneck in my build.

I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but I want to ensure it's the right choice for my system. I'm also contemplating future-proofing but don't want to overspend for a component I might not fully utilize. A friend of mine has a Ryzen 7 7800X3D available for a good price, but it won't work with my X570 motherboard. What do you think?

If you're coming from a 3600XT, jumping to a Ryzen 7 5700X would make the most sense financially. The x3D CPUs right now are pretty pricey, and unless you can get them for under $200, it might be wiser to avoid them. Stick to something like the 5700X and save your cash!

You might have a tough time finding a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for a reasonable price, as it's already been discontinued. If you stumble upon one for $250-300, that's decent, but honestly, you could also consider the Ryzen 5 5600X. It offers a nice performance bump for much less, around 20% increase for a budget-friendly upgrade.
