I have an 8 TB Toshiba drive that seems to have failed. A month ago it wasn't recognized, but swapping bays fixed that. Now, though, I can only see 'Drive Unknown, Not Initialized' in Disk Management. I don't even get the usual prompt to choose between GPT or MBR, and I can't find an option to 'fix drive' in the tools section. I tried using EaseUS Partition Master 19.6, but it just sits there trying to update system information and locks up. This situation is frustrating, especially since I remember when you could easily rebuild an MBR to resolve drive issues! Any ideas on how I can get my drive back up and running?

It sounds like your drive might be physically defective, which could be causing these issues. Have you tried using Crystal Disk Info to check its status?
The complexity of GPT partitions does make recovery a bit trickier than MBR, which usually has a straightforward fix. Have you considered trying TestDisk? It's great for recovering GPT partitions.
Yeah, TestDisk 7.3 can actually recognize your drive and check for issues. If it says the structure is okay, you might be good to go by just hitting ENTER.

I haven't tried TestDisk yet, but I'm planning to. I'll let you know how it goes!
