Is it Better to Build a PC Now or Wait Until 2027?

I'm considering building a new PC soon since I'm reusing my current case and storage, so I don't need to upgrade those right away. My planned build includes a Core i5 14600KF, RTX 5070, 32GB of RAM, a Corsair 850W PSU, a Thermalright Spirit Evo cooler, and a Gigabyte Z790 motherboard, totaling around $1200. I have some gifted cash, so I would only need to spend about $900. The main reason for upgrading is to play games that my older PC can't handle anymore, like FIFA, Marvel Rivals, Fortnite, and GTA. My current setup has a 4690 CPU, 16GB DDR3 RAM, a GTX 960, and is housed in an NZXT H510 case. I'm looking to buy the parts around Black Friday. Additionally, my Windows 10 support ends in October 2026, which makes me consider waiting until 2027 if prices drop. Any advice on this would really help!

If possible, get your RAM now. Prices are getting high and they might get worse. Microcenter usually has some good deals, so check that out if it's an option for you.

I can definitely get to a Microcenter—planning to pick some up in Miami!

You might consider upgrading just your GPU for now if you're concerned about RAM prices; however, since your CPU is quite dated, upgrading your whole rig might be the better option in the long run. If you find a decent 1000 or 2000 series GPU, it could ease the pain a bit until you’re ready for a full upgrade.

Yeah, my current CPU is definitely a bottleneck, so I really need a full upgrade.

It sounds like you're mostly set to start fresh. 32GB of RAM can indeed be pricey, but for gaming, it will be worth it. Also, I suggest looking into an i7-14700K for better performance overall. I’ve seen fantastic results with that CPU.

I'll keep that in mind! Thanks for the tip.

I'd say go for it now! Black Friday deals usually start early, and prices on RAM and GPUs might only go up from here, so it's better to get what you need sooner rather than later. There’s always gonna be newer components, but you need a capable setup for your games now.

Exactly! Waiting could cost you more in the long run.

I’m in a similar boat and decided to build now. The trend for prices on VRAM and memory chips isn't promising, so it’s probably best to not wait too long. It sounds like your current setup is really holding you back.

Totally agree! The sooner you upgrade, the better your experience will be.
