I accidentally smashed my phone's screen, and while the display lights up, it's completely unresponsive to touch. I've attempted to connect it to my laptop to mirror the screen onto my monitor, but since I neglected to enable USB debugging, that plan fell flat—even after trying two different cables and another laptop. I had a thought: could a USB to HDMI multiport adapter help me out? I'm not sure it will work since I still have the debugging issue. Should I give it a shot?

You might want to look into scrcpy, which has an OTG mode. It allows you to use a keyboard or mouse to access your phone without needing USB debugging first. It could be your ticket to getting your data back!
Since you mentioned you haven't enabled USB debugging, many options are off the table. But a USB mouse could be your best bet! Try connecting it; it worked for me before and gave me a cursor to navigate around.
If your phone has Dex support, you might want to consider using a USB-C docking station. It could let you access your data more easily.
Unfortunately, laptops typically only output video signals, so a USB to HDMI adapter likely won't help unless your phone’s USB-C supports DisplayPort. I’d recommend taking your phone to a repair shop instead; it’s worth the cost if you need the data back.
A USB to HDMI adapter might just work! But if not, OTG cables could give you control with a mouse. That way, you can unlock your phone and back everything up.
