Why is my Chrome browser so laggy?

I've been experiencing major lag when I open Chrome, and it's like my whole computer stutters for a moment. I've already tried clearing my cache, removing some extensions, and restarting multiple times, but nothing seems to help. Is there possibly some hidden junk running in the background, or am I just overreacting?

For checking startup programs, you can use the Task Manager on Windows or Activity Monitor on macOS. Disabling unnecessary startup items can help improve performance.

Yes, hardware acceleration settings can definitely play a role in how smoothly your browser runs. You might want to give that a look.

It sounds like you might need to check your system specs. What kind of RAM and CPU are you running? Also, what operating system do you have? Sometimes, the browser can be impacted by the hardware it’s on.

If your hard drive is failing, it could definitely cause lag in your browser. It's worth checking the health of your drive to rule that out.

Have you considered switching to a different browser like Firefox or Edge? They may perform better on your system, especially if Chrome feels too heavy.
