Help! Can’t Connect My Domain Controller to the Network

I'm really new to managing servers and I'm running into a big issue. I recently set up my first physical server with Windows Server 2019, including Active Directory and DNS. I wanted to access it remotely, so I set up a Tailscale VPN. At first, everything worked fine with remote desktop access. Then suddenly, my server lost its internet connection, became unreachable, and I can't access my Tailscale settings since I need the internet for that. I uninstalled Tailscale and now I'm just trying to get my DNS functioning properly again. I've spent hours troubleshooting but can't seem to make any progress. The physical connection looks good, but I can't ping my router, and it happened overnight. I noticed a Windows update just before the issue started—could that be linked? I'd appreciate any help or suggestions on how to fix this!

It sounds like you're on the right track, and I get that this can be frustrating! Since you're learning, let's break it down with some questions to help you figure things out. Are you trying to ping the router from your server or another device? Also, is your server on the same subnet as your laptop? Understanding your network setup can really help here. Have you checked any logs on your router? Sometimes they can provide useful insights into connectivity issues. Since setups vary a lot, these details can help pinpoint the problem.

Looks like you’ve made some progress! It's unfortunate that Windows Server 2019 isn't playing nice with your Dell Poweredge R510. You might try looking for custom network drivers that aren't from Dell, or consider doing a clean install with an older version of Windows Server that's known to be compatible with your hardware.

I appreciate your questions, it sounds like you might not have provided enough details initially. I'm trying to ping the router from my server, and it works fine from all other devices. It's the same router my laptop uses. My server has a static IP on the same subnet as the router. There's no other devices in between right now. However, I suspect the recent Windows update might have messed up my network drivers, and I'm trying to find the right ones since my server is an older model. Any further suggestions?
