I've been having serious issues with my D drive for a while now; it's so slow that every time I click on a folder, my file explorer freezes and shows 8not responding9. I decided to run chkdsk for the first time to fix it, but it got stuck at 'Fixing (D:) Stage 2: 15% (949 of 6031); Total: 88%; ETA: 1:34:41'. Someone suggested I force shutdown and try it in command prompt, but then it hung at 'Progress: 269 of 5085 done; Stage; 5%; Total: 78%; ETA: 9:26:23'. I accidentally canceled it, and now I can't bypass check disk when I boot. Now it's been stuck at 'Fixing (D:) Stage 2: 100% (146408 of 146408); Total: 76%; ETA: 2:46:06' for three hours. Should I keep waiting, or is there something else I can do?

It could be a hardware issue or a corrupted file system. I recommend stopping the check and trying to skip it during startup. If possible, back up your important data right away and consider using diskpart to delete the disk, which could "fix" the issues unless it's definitely a hardware problem. Just be careful with that option!
It sounds like your drive might be failing. I’d suggest creating a backup image of it and running a file recovery software if you can. That way, you can salvage any important files before things get worse.
