What are the implications of AMD ending support for RX 5000 and 6000 series GPUs?

I've been saving up for my first GPU, and I'm torn between getting a 12GB GeForce RTX 3060 or a 12GB Radeon RX 6700 XT since both are within my budget. However, I came across some news saying that AMD has stopped supporting the 5000 and 6000 series GPUs. How is this going to impact gamers like me? Should I be worried about playing games released before this year? Is it worth it to choose the 3060 even if it doesn't perform as well?

I still use my R9 390 without any issues. AMD stopped support a bit ago, but none of that has impacted how older games run. You'll probably be just fine.

Honestly, it's hard to say what AMD's plans are. However, many people believe you'll likely be okay using the card for a while, even with future games. Just know they won't help if something goes wrong.

The loss of support doesn't mean your card will stop working. You might not get new features or updates, but the RX 5000 and 6000 series will still function just fine for now.

Yeah, we don’t have a clear answer. It could work great for older games, but for new titles, the RX series is getting a bit dated. If I had to choose between the two, I'd lean towards the 3060 for its better upscaling capabilities—even if it’s still not a powerhouse.

I get that the 6700 XT has a better performance boost (around 20%), which is why I leaned towards it. But I’m mainly gaming at 1080p, so maybe the upscaling features of the 3060 might be more beneficial after all!
