Looking for Guidance on CPU and GPU Upgrades for Gaming and Editing

I'm considering upgrading my PC after about 5-6 years. Currently, I have a 3070 graphics card and a 5600X processor, and I think I definitely need an upgrade. I'm looking into the 5070 Ti and the 9800X3D, but a friend suggested I should aim for a 5080 and a 9900X instead since he believes that the 9800X3D will bottleneck the 5070 Ti. My primary use is gaming, but I also do some video editing for work at home. My main monitor is the AW3821DW. I would love to get advice on the best CPU/GPU combinations within my budget.

What’s your budget looking like? Remember, you're starting fresh with AM5, so pricing could vary. If you're planning to spend around $2000 for the whole PC, you have plenty of options!

Yeah, I was thinking of around $2000 for the complete setup.

A 9800X3D pairs well with nearly any GPU, and actually performs better for gaming than the 9900X. Don't let someone else's opinion sway you too much. The combo you're looking at is pretty high-end!

Honestly, go for the 5070 Ti and the 9800X3D. That's a great combo for gaming. Your friend's concern seems unwarranted; while the 9900X has some advantages in video editing, the performance gain isn't worth it if gaming is your priority.

So the 9800X3D is still a solid upgrade from my 5600X for video tasks, right? Just checking to be sure.

Forget the friend’s advice. A solid 5070 Ti and a 9800X3D would work great together, especially for gaming. You might save a bit with a 7800X3D, but if cash isn't tight, the 9800X3D is an awesome choice.

Thanks for the clarity! That sounds like a solid plan.

Sounds like your friend just wants you to spend more money than necessary.
