What upgrades should I consider for my aging PC build?

I've got an old gaming rig that I built about ten years ago, and I'm looking for advice on what to upgrade. My current specs are an Intel i7-4790k 4 GHz quad-core processor, an Asus Z97-E ATX motherboard, 32GB of Patriot Viper 3 DDR3 RAM at 1600MHz, an MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB GPU, and a Corsair RM650 W power supply. The GPU is the last thing I upgraded, but I'm unsure about my CPU's current performance and whether I should boost the RAM speed or do a complete overhaul. If I need new RAM, would I also need to change my motherboard?

Honestly, for basic tasks like browsing or casual gaming, your setup is still decent. It might not be the best for modern gaming, but if you're just using it for everyday tasks, it should be fine as is.

I think you should start by upgrading your CPU. Unfortunately, your current motherboard won't support any newer CPUs, and since you're on DDR3 RAM, it's best to plan for a full upgrade of the CPU, motherboard, and RAM all at once.

Your system is actually pretty balanced for now, especially with that GPU, and can handle 1080p gaming decently. However, given the age of the CPU and RAM, I'd recommend considering a new build altogether while keeping the GPU for now. You can always upgrade that in the future if you run into performance issues.
