Hey everyone, I just got a new Windows 11 laptop and need to move around 400GB of files from my old Windows 11 laptop. I'm familiar with some options, but it's been a long time since I last did this, so I'm hoping to find some better solutions available today. I'd like to avoid cloud storage since it doesn't seem efficient for such a large number of files. Also, using a shared folder on a local network isn't appealing as my home network is pretty slow, which would make the transfer take ages. Plus, I really don't want to buy a USB drive or an SSD-USB adapter just for this one transfer since both laptops only have one M.2 slot.

If you have a gigabit LAN, using a shared folder on the network would actually be the best bet for speed. If your network is slower, you might want to connect the two laptops directly with a network cable instead.
Totally agree! Just avoid using WiFi for this if you can.
Since you're avoiding external drives and cloud options, why not consider getting an external DVD burner? It might seem a bit old-school, but it could work. Although, for speed and convenience, an external SSD to USB adapter is a low-cost option and could really be your best choice here.
If you set static IPs on both laptops and connect them directly, you should get a much faster transfer. Just make sure both have gigabit interfaces.
