I'm considering downgrading my RAM from 32GB to 16GB to afford a GPU upgrade. I'm looking to move from an RX 6650 XT to either a used 7900 GRE or 9060 XT. While I rarely use all my current RAM, the 32GB kits are quite pricey here. Since I'm getting back into VR, my current GPU just isn't cutting it anymore for the more demanding games. I've found that the performance jump from the 6650 XT to the 7900 GRE is significant, and I'm eager to make that jump. Would this downgrade be a smart move?

If you're using DDR5, the downgrade might make sense, but if it's DDR4, I'd say it’s not worth it. What’s the price on that 7900 GRE? Also, what CPU do you have? Sounds like your GPU is definitely the bottleneck, especially for VR and graphically demanding games.
Downgrading to 16GB should be fine for gaming, especially if you're not hitting high usage now. Just keep an eye on background applications. I’ve been solid with 16GB myself and haven’t had any issues.

I have a Ryzen 5 7600X, and the 7900 GRE is going for around £410 - £450 used. I’m definitely bottlenecking with VR, which is why I’m keen on upgrading.
