Is Gaming on Linux Worth It for My New PC?

I'm getting my first serious gaming desktop and I'm trying to decide whether to run Linux or stick with Windows. I've seen a lot of mixed opinions about gaming on Linux, especially with NVIDIA GPUs like the RTX 5060 Ti. Since I mainly play single-player games, I'm not too worried about anti-cheat systems.

Considering my limited experience with Ubuntu, should I make the switch to Linux now or wait until the gaming situation on Linux improves? I want to ensure I can fully utilize my new system without running into major gaming issues.

If you're looking for a smooth experience, consider getting an AMD GPU! They typically work better with Linux without the hassle of driver issues that can come with NVIDIA. That said, NVIDIA can still work fine, but you might have to deal with lagging features. Overall, the current Linux gaming landscape is pretty good; most games run flawlessly outside of those that use aggressive anti-cheat measures.

A dual-boot setup could be your best bet! You can use Windows for gaming and other applications while exploring Linux for everything else. That way, you won't miss out on any gaming while you ease into using Linux.

In my experience, most games work surprisingly well on Linux. Sure, there's some trial and error involved, especially with NVIDIA cards, but it's manageable. If you're up for some experimentation, go ahead and give Linux a try—you can always switch back if it doesn't work out.

I've been gaming on Linux for a while, and I mainly stick to single-player games too. I've had no issues with mods or running games, even some that aren't officially supported. Linux is definitely a viable option if you're not too picky about certain online features.
