What CPU Should I Upgrade To for Better Gaming Performance?

I'm looking to upgrade my gaming setup, specifically my CPU. Right now, I'm using a Ryzen 5 5600G with an Nvidia RTX 3050, but I'm considering switching to a 5070 Ti GPU. However, I discovered that at 1440p, my current CPU causes about a 20% bottleneck. I'm torn between the Ryzen 9 5950X and the Ryzen 7 5800X. Should I prioritize more cores and threads or opt for a higher base clock? Also, I get a bit confused with the Ryzen naming scheme—could someone clarify the differences between Ryzen 5, 7, and 9? Here are my current specs if it helps:

- Motherboard: MSI MPG B550 Gaming Plus
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G
- GPU: Nvidia RTX 3050
- RAM: 32GB DDR4 3600MHz CL32 (or possibly CL30).

Looking forward to any advice!

Don't worry too much about those online bottleneck calculators; your Ryzen 5 5600G and a 5070 Ti combo should work fine for 1440p. You might hit some limits in CPU-heavy games like Battlefield 6, but for most single-player games, you'll be just fine!

Honestly, if you're going for gaming, look at the 5800X3D. It's the best AM4 CPU for gaming, outperforming the 5950X by a lot. Don't settle for less, especially if you’re not planning to do heavy rendering or video editing!

Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn't considered the 5800X3D because I wasn't sure how it compared to the others. Definitely something to look into!

For gaming, you might want to consider CPUs like the 5600X or even the 5700X. They perform well and shouldn't lag too much behind the options you're looking at. However, none will definitely be a massive upgrade over your current setup, so think about your gaming needs before choosing.
