I've got an old iPhone SE 2nd generation running iOS 14, and I forgot the passcode. I've been trying different combinations but I'm currently locked out for 15 minutes. I'm worried that if I keep trying, I might get permanently locked out. I didn't set up an option to erase the data after a certain number of failed attempts, so I have a few questions: 1) What's the longest wait time between lockouts? 2) How many tries will I have after this 15-minute wait? 3) What happens if I hit the maximum attempt limit? 4) Is there a way to reset the timer by not attempting anything for a while?

It's worth noting that if you absolutely need your data and can't get in, there are forensic services that can help unlock your phone if you're legally entitled to access the data. Just be cautious, as guessing wrongly can lead to the data being permanently unavailable.
1) After 6 incorrect passcodes, you’ll be locked out for 8 hours. 2) You can try 4 more times after the 15-minute lockout. 3) If you max out the attempts, you’ll need to wipe your phone completely. The only action you can take then is to make emergency calls. 4) Unfortunately, you can’t reset the timer by waiting. However, entering the same wrong passcode counts as just one attempt, so it won't increase your lockout time.
