Hey everyone! I'm a bit of a newbie here and I'm building a new PC with a 9800X3D CPU, a 5080 GPU, and a Lian Li 1300W power supply. I currently have a universal power supply with battery backup, but it's rated at just 1000VA and 550W. I plan to use my PC often but won't always be gaming. When I do game, I assume the wattage drawn won't exceed 1300W—maybe just approaches it during intense gaming sessions. I'm mainly concerned about avoiding unsafe shutdowns—not about continuous gaming during outages. Any thoughts on this?

There are definitely downsides to this setup. If your UPS can't handle the wattage, it won’t work properly during power outages—it'll drain too fast. Plus, you risk ruining the batteries. I'd suggest getting a matching UPS for your system's needs.
The UPS really should be rated higher than what your entire rig pulls, including peripheral devices like your monitor. If you're drawing over 550W and the power fails, it'll probably shut down without any warning.
Thanks for the fast replies! Quick follow-up: is the UPS limited to that 550W all the time? I assumed it would pass through the necessary power when not on battery, only regulating that when on battery.
If you push over 550W, your UPS is likely to start beeping to signal an over-current situation, and it’ll shut itself off shortly after to protect its internals. In an outage, if you're drawing more than 550W when the power goes out, the UPS will cut off immediately, which could damage the batteries too.
