I'm in search of a reliable phone system for my small business, which consists of just four team members. We've tried RingCentral and Nextiva, but both have been really disappointing in terms of reliability and support. Our business is dependent on texting, so I'm looking for a system that can accommodate the following needs:
- We only require one business phone number.
- All four of us need access to the same text message threads and the ability to reply from that shared number.
- We all need to make calls from that same number.
- It's essential to have good desktop functionality.
We don't need individual lines; our teamwork depends on all of us being able to communicate through the same text thread to keep everything consistent. If anyone has recommendations for a business phone system that meets these criteria (and is not Nextiva or RingCentral), I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks in advance for your help!

I switched from Shoretel to RingCentral, and I found it to be a solid choice. After some initial hiccups during the transition, it has worked seamlessly for my business. I recommend giving it another shot if you haven't already.
I’d recommend checking out 3CX. It's quite straightforward to set up and maintain, and it has SMS support—just ensure your SIP provider can handle it.
You might find Voipstudio to be a good fit. It’s affordable, easy to set up, and they offer a free trial, which could help you gauge if it's the right system for your team's needs.
Honestly, my experience with RingCentral was a nightmare, and we ditched them as fast as possible. If you’re not happy, I suggest looking into Teams Phones instead—many users have found it effective for shared text threads.
Have you considered Zoom Phone? It allows you to set up one number that can be managed by your whole team. You can create a call queue and everyone can access voicemail together, and it works great on both desktop and mobile apps.
