I've recently switched from Android to an iPhone, and I'm really frustrated with the App Store experience. On Android, downloading free apps was as easy as clicking a button, but now I'm constantly being asked for my password and then told that I need to attach a payment method, even for free apps. I've tried selecting my existing payment method, but it just keeps looping back to the same issue: 'click continue, then sign in to see payment methods.' When I click continue, it doesn't prompt me to sign in, and just takes me back to the payment method screen. I even deleted and re-added my payment method to see if that would help, but it's still not working. I'm stuck in this endless cycle and can't figure out how to download the app I want! Any tips on how to resolve this?

Have you checked if you're still within the return window for your new iPhone? Sometimes if things are super frustrating right off the bat, it might be worth considering a return. Just a thought!
It seems like you're doing everything right, but it’s definitely odd that you can't just add a payment method for free downloads. Have you tried contacting Apple support? They might help clarify what's going wrong. Also, check if you’re still eligible for a return, just in case you're thinking of switching back to Android.
The issue is that I keep adding payment methods, and it still won’t let me download anything.

Forgive me, but I'm not sure what you mean by that.
