I recently received a 2019 MacBook Air from my mother-in-law as a gift. She said it was practically brand new, as she used it for work but did a hard reset before giving it to me for school. Now, I'm confused because the laptop is really slow. I hardly have anything on it, and I can't even do a hard reset anymore. I've tried it twice. Did I mess something up?

Hey there! It sounds like you're dealing with a pretty slow MacBook. Can you give a bit more context about what you mean by 'slow'? Which apps or tasks are lagging? Also, what version of macOS are you running, and how much free space do you actually have? That info might help narrow it down!
Sorry for not being clear! The computer gets super slow no matter what I'm doing. It freezes a lot and I get stuck on the spinning rainbow wheel every time I use it. I only use it for online work, and both Safari and Chrome are painfully slow. I’m updating to the Sonoma version now, hoping that helps!
I get your frustration! The 2019 MacBook Air can run macOS up to Sonoma, but being six years old, it’s considered a vintage Mac now. Honestly, when these get older, they tend to really slow down, especially the Intel models. If you can, think about getting a newer device like an M1 Mac; the performance difference is huge! You won't get much support for vintage models, either. If you run into issues, the Apple Store typically won't service them anymore.

I have 120 GB free even though I’m trying to download apps for school and work, but it just doesn’t run them.
