Is it a good idea to buy a used high-end GPU for a new gaming PC?

I'm just starting out with building my own PC, and I only have a laptop and a PS4 right now. I'm looking to build a decent setup mainly for playing first-person shooters like R6, Rivals, Fortnite, and Minecraft. My budget is around $1,200 for the whole build, and I'm considering purchasing a used high-end GPU from a few years back to save some cash. Is this a smart move? Are there older graphics cards that still perform well today?

If $1,200 is your total budget for the entire build, then you might want to look at newer mid-range GPUs instead of going for used high-end ones. For your games, a card like the Pulse Sapphire 9070 XT priced at around $600 can handle most of what you want to play. Just make sure to leave some budget for the other components too. Also, consider your setup – if you don't have high-end monitors or peripherals, a super expensive GPU might not be necessary to fully enjoy the games.

What do you think makes the Sapphire cards better than others like Gigabyte or Asus if they're around the same price?
