I'm looking for help to rethink our current small network setup. We have 7 users, with 3 full-time staff working in the main office. They access our Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) via Remote Desktop, and the other 4 users come in weekly to use available cubicle desktops. The full-time users also log into AVD from home, where they each have at least one personal computer, and some of them use their laptops while traveling. Everyone appreciates the consistency of AVD, as they can access the same desktop regardless of where they log in from. However, we've been facing some issues with OneDrive and FSLogix that are making me reconsider whether we should move away from AVD altogether. What would your suggestions be for redesigning this network?

I wouldn’t switch from AVD just because of a few hiccups! It’s better to work on resolving those issues and make your setup more secure—like requiring compliant devices to connect. It seems like changing everything might be a step backward when the cloud is beneficial for users, but on-prem might still make sense in certain areas, right?
It’s tough to think about moving away from AVD, especially since it offers great user experience and security features. If you also replace OneDrive, you’ll need to set up your own on-premises or hosted file storage system. If you’re not sure how to proceed, it might be worthwhile to consult with someone who has experience in this kind of migration.
Honestly, the best course might just be to focus on fixing your current AVD issues. If it’s beyond your current skills, consider bringing in an expert like Nerdio to help optimize the setup. Since budget isn't a concern, additional professional help could really make a difference!
Have you considered what other software is being used? If you have applications that can run on managed Intune laptops, that might be an option worth exploring!
What about switching to laptops with docking stations? It could provide flexibility and ease of setup for your team!
Keep in mind that every solution will have its problems. If you want to stick with a virtual desktop solution, consider building on-prem Citrix farms with strong hardware across multiple locations. That might give you better performance than AVD. If cost isn't a concern, investing in direct solutions could also work, but then you’ll need to handle security around data stored on laptops.
