I've recently upgraded to an RTX 5080 to replace my old 2070 Super, and I'm hoping to enhance my current setup even more. My current build includes an i7 9700k processor, Asus ROG z390e motherboard, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a 2TB M.2 SSD, and I'm running Windows 10 on a 1440p 144Hz monitor. What other improvements can I make to prolong the life of this build before needing a complete overhaul?

If you stick with Intel, the 14th gen CPUs could be a good choice, but you'd need a new motherboard. Some ASrock boards now support both DDR4 and DDR5, which is pretty interesting!
Your current build is somewhat limited, but you can overclock the i7-9700K for a 10-15% boost. With a good cooler, you could potentially reach stable clock speeds of 4.8-4.9 GHz on all cores. Just be mindful of the game settings you use to manage CPU workload better.
You might want to think about upgrading your CPU in the future, but that would mean getting a new motherboard and RAM, which can get pricey. Do you have a budget for such upgrades?
A solid upgrade would be to add another 16GB RAM kit. It can really help with multitasking and overall performance, especially in demanding games.
Keep in mind that the RTX 5000 series has PCIe gen 5.0, so make sure your current setup fully utilizes that potential, even though running at x8 lanes isn't a huge drawback.
