Is It Worth Paying Extra for the 5080 Over the 5070ti?

I recently got a 4K monitor and it's amazing, but my 3080 10GB just isn't cutting it anymore. I've been waiting for the 5080 Super, but with the recent rumors and rising RAM prices, I'm hesitant to wait any longer in case prices go up even more. I've been reading that the 5080 might not be a great value and that I should just get a 5070ti. In the US, the 5080 is almost $400 more than the 5070ti, but in the UK, the price difference is smaller: I can buy a Founders Edition 5080 for £909 and the cheapest 5070ti is around £720. Given that I'm gaming at 4K, would you pay the extra £190 for the 5080? Even though it's about 15-20% faster, at 4K that could mean the difference between a smooth 60fps and a not-so-great experience.

For 4K gaming, I'd absolutely recommend the 5080 over the 5070 ti. While I play at 1440p with my 5070 ti, I tested it at 4K and it just doesn't quite keep up in heavy games like Cyberpunk, especially with settings maxed out. It's fine at 1440p, but you may struggle with 4K without tweaking a lot of settings.

Cyberpunk with path tracing is exactly why I want an upgrade! I'm excited to dive into Phantom Liberty, so I'm definitely going for the 5080!

You really need to think about whether you actually need the extra performance. If the extra money isn't going to hurt your budget and you think you'll regret not getting the 5080, go for it!

Good way to think about it!

At the end of the day, the 5080 is simply a better card than the 5070ti. If you're after improved performance, the choice is clear. Just go for the 5080!

I had the same dilemma just a couple weeks back. There was a difference of about €200-230. I decided on the 5080 because, honestly, no one knows when the new Super or 60xx series will drop. Even if it's only a 15% boost in performance, that extra frame rate can really enhance your gaming enjoyment!

Nice, how's the 5080 working out for you? What card were you using before?

Honestly, if you're already spending over £720, what's another couple hundred? You'll probably end up wondering why you didn't just go for the 5080 in the first place. Additionally, the 5070ti can reach 5080 performance with some overclocking, but the 5080 has a lot more potential if you get lucky with the silicon lottery! If you're looking for long-term value, the 5080 is the way to go.

Cheers! I usually think the same way when making big purchases. I likely won't regret it once I'm playing Warhammer 3!
