I recently purchased an 8GB DDR3 SODIMM RAM from Simmtronics for my laptop, which can support up to 16GB of RAM across two slots. However, after installing it, my laptop won't start and instead shows a blue error screen. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

You mentioned having an Acer Aspire 5742 G. Since it's running fine with 4GB but not with the new 8GB, it's possible that the RAM sticks aren't compatible or seated properly. Have you tried testing the new RAM in each slot individually? Sometimes a bad slot can cause issues too.
If you haven't already, I recommend running MemTest to check for any errors, but I understand it can be confusing. Basically, you boot from a USB or CD with MemTest on it and let it run for a while to check for RAM issues. If it doesn't test well, the new module may be faulty.
It sounds like there could be a compatibility issue with the new RAM. Can you share the make and model of your laptop along with details about your current RAM and the one you bought? That info would really help narrow things down!
