Hey everyone! I currently have a Ryzen 5 5600 with an MSI B550-A Pro motherboard, a 4070 Super GPU, and 32GB of DDR4 RAM. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU but I'm running into some issues with availability and pricing. At first, I wanted to go with the Ryzen 7500F, but the prices of DDR5 RAM are outrageous right now. I considered the Ryzen 5700X3D as another option, but it's completely out of stock. Now, I'm exploring the possibility of getting an Intel I5 14600K paired with a Gigabyte Z790 D motherboard, which seems much cheaper than my first two choices and I've heard it's a decent setup. However, I'm unsure about the motherboard's quality, especially regarding its VRMs, since it's the cheapest Z chipset I could find and I haven't seen many reviews on it. What do you all think?

The Aorus Elite AX is a great motherboard if you can get it! It's well-priced and offers solid features, plus good VRMs for overclocking if that's something you're interested in.

If you're focused on gaming and the 5700X3D is out of stock, I suggest checking out the Ryzen 7 5800XT. It’s the best 8-core non-X3D gaming CPU available right now. But honestly, the Intel options you’re looking at are pretty solid for price and performance, especially if you already have the DDR4 RAM.

Yeah, but keep in mind that the Ryzen 7000 series has also been a performance beast if you're considering a future upgrade. Just something to think about!

Before jumping to suggestions, what's driving your upgrade? Are you seeing performance issues, or are you just looking for an overall boost? That might help in giving more tailored advice.

Your pairing of the I5 14600K with the Gigabyte Z790 D sounds reasonable. While Z boards aren't strictly necessary unless you plan to overclock, it's good to keep that option open. Just be aware that the 14600K has had some issues with voltage degradation, but updated BIOS can handle that. Overall, flexibility with your RAM options makes it an appealing choice given the shortages right now.
